Domestic Abuse Conference Drives Workplace Change

Domestic Abuse in the Workplace Conference 2026

Rural Action Derbyshire’s Domestic Abuse in the Workplace Conference 2026 brought together employers, survivors, support organisations and specialists for a powerful day of learning, reflection and action. The event explored how workplaces can play a vital role in recognising domestic abuse, supporting victim-survivors and creating safer, more inclusive environments.

The conference focused on increasing awareness of domestic abuse, sharing best practice for employers, and highlighting the unique challenges faced by people living and working in rural communities. Delegates heard moving testimonies from survivors, gained practical tools to support employees, and learned about the importance of compassionate workplace responses.

Michelle Grosse, Project Officer for The Willow Project, said the overwhelming response demonstrated a growing recognition that domestic abuse is not only a personal issue but also a workplace issue. Attendees reported feeling more confident in identifying signs of abuse and implementing supportive workplace practices.

Speakers from organisations including Crossroads Derbyshire, The Elm Foundation, WORTH and Employers’ Initiative on Domestic Abuse (EIDA) shared valuable insights, while Deputy Police & Crime Commissioner Dr Fatima Eltinay challenged delegates to consider who may still be missing from support services and why.

The conference reinforced one key message: employers do not need to solve domestic abuse, but they do need to be prepared to respond safely, sensitively and effectively when someone asks for help.
