Rural Community Development Officer

What We’re Looking For

Rural Action Derbyshire is recruiting an experienced and motivated Rural Community Development Officer will support and engage rural communities across Derbyshire, focusing on affordable housing initiatives and sustainable community development. The role involves raising awareness of rural housing opportunities, guiding communities through housing needs assessments, and supporting feasibility studies. It also includes managing community building initiatives and delivering sustainability programmes. The ideal candidate is a confident communicator with proven community development experience, capable of building partnerships with local stakeholders and fostering resilient, inclusive rural communities through innovative engagement approaches.

Trustees

Become a Trustee at Rural Action Derbyshire

We are always keen to hear from people that might be interested in joining us as a Trustee.

Trustees play a vital role in guiding our strategy, supporting our executive team and ensuring we continue to make a real difference to rural communities across Derbyshire.

Previous board experience is not required, just a commitment to rural life, a willingness to learn, and the ability to contribute your insight and judgement.

  • Attending 4 Board meetings a year (usually 3 online, 1 in person in Matlock)
  • Reading and preparing meeting papers
  • Joining sub-committees or working groups if time allows
  • Helping to shape RAD’s direction and standing up for rural voices
  • It’s not an onerous commitment, but it is a meaningful one.
  • Reflect the diversity of rural Derbyshire (age, gender, race, disability, culture, sexual orientation)
  • Have lived experience of rural disadvantage (poverty, isolation, transport barriers)
  • Bring knowledge in areas such as housing, community development, digital inclusion, food or fuel poverty, health, domestic abuse, transport, fundraising, or the environment
